The conversion leaks hiding in your Shopify store

By the Crawinx team · 6 min read

Most store owners respond to slow sales the same way: buy more traffic. But if your funnel leaks, more traffic just means paying more to lose more. Before you raise ad spend, it's worth checking where buyers are quietly disappearing. In the stores we audit, the leaks cluster in the same few places.

Leak 1: The mobile page that loads after the buyer leaves

Most Indian and US e-commerce traffic is mobile, and mobile shoppers are impatient. If your product page takes more than a few seconds on a mid-range phone over 4G, a chunk of the traffic you paid for never sees your product at all. Test your top landing pages on a real phone, not your office Wi-Fi. Oversized images, app scripts you no longer use, and heavy themes are the usual suspects.

Leak 2: Product pages that don't answer the real objection

Every buyer arrives with one question that decides the purchase. For auto parts it's "will this fit my vehicle?" For skincare it's "will this work on my skin?" For custom products it's "what exactly will I receive, and when?" If your product page doesn't answer that question above the fold — with specifics, photos and proof — the buyer leaves to find a page that does. Reviews, guarantees and delivery timelines aren't decoration; they're answers.

Leak 3: The cart that asks for too much

Every extra field, forced account creation, or surprise shipping cost at checkout gives the buyer a reason to stop. Audit your own checkout monthly as if you were a first-time customer on a phone: count the taps between "add to cart" and "order placed." Then remove everything that isn't strictly needed. Offering the payment methods your market actually uses — UPI and COD in India, wallets and PayPal in the US — matters more than any design tweak.

Leak 4: Nobody follows up

Most visitors won't buy on the first visit even from a perfect store. The difference between stores that grow and stores that plateau is what happens next: abandoned-cart messages that arrive within the hour, WhatsApp or email flows that answer questions, and retargeting that shows the exact product the buyer viewed. This is also where automation earns its keep — follow-up is boring, high-volume and rule-based, which makes it perfect for n8n workflows and AI agents.

How to find your leaks

You don't need expensive tools to start. Open your analytics and follow the journey: how many people land, how many view a product, how many add to cart, how many reach checkout, how many pay. The biggest percentage drop between any two steps is your first leak. Fix that one before touching anything else — and only then decide whether you need more traffic.

Fixing the funnel before scaling spend is exactly the sequence we follow in every engagement: audit first, fix the leaks, then pour traffic into a funnel that holds it.
